Connecting tools needs Pro or Enterprise, or sign-in fails

If the Vamo sign-in window will not let you allow an AI tool, the account's plan lacks API keys or your role on the account cannot create them.

Article summary

  • Allowing an AI tool to sign in to Vamo needs an account on the Pro or Enterprise plan.
  • Owners, admins and users on a Vamo account can connect an AI tool. A read-only member cannot.
  • A Vamo API key needs the same plan as signing in, so a key is not a way around a plan message.
  • After a plan or role change, start the connection again from the AI tool to get a new sign-in window.

The Vamo sign-in window turns you away for one of two reasons. The account's plan does not include connecting AI tools, or your role on the account cannot connect them. Fix whichever the window names, then start the connection again from your AI tool.

What you are seeing

Your AI tool opened a Vamo page in the browser. In place of an Allow button, or after you pressed it, you see one of these:

  • "Connecting tools needs Pro or Enterprise", with a See plans button.
  • "Ask an owner or admin", with the line "Your role on this account can't connect tools."

What it means

Your AI tool reached Vamo, and Vamo knows who you are. The connection stopped at the approval step. Nothing was sent back to your tool.

Approving a sign-in has the same two requirements as creating an API key:

  • A plan with API keys. That is Pro or Enterprise.
  • A role that can create keys. Owners, admins and users can. A read-only member cannot.

An API key needs the same plan. Switching to a key does not get around the plan message.

Try this

  1. Read which message you got. The plan message and the role message have different fixes.
  2. For the plan message, press See plans. If you do not manage the account's plan, ask the account owner.
  3. For the role message, ask an owner or admin of the account to change your role.
  4. Check which account you are in. Plan and role belong to one Vamo account. If you belong to more than one, switch to the right one in the app first.
  5. Start again from your AI tool. The old window will not update. Connect again from the tool to get a new one.
  6. Confirm it worked. Your tool appears under Connected tools on Set up > API keys.

For background, read Sign in or use an API key and Connected tools and keys. Before you start lists what an account needs.

If the window never opens, or the sign-in never finishes, read Vamo won't connect.

Still stuck

Hand the problem to your assistant. Tell it which of the two messages you saw.

FAQs

Why does Vamo say connecting tools needs Pro or Enterprise?

Connecting an AI tool to Vamo is part of the Pro and Enterprise plans. The Vamo account you are signed in to is on another plan. Once the account is on Pro or Enterprise, start the connection again from your AI tool.

Why does the Vamo sign-in window say to ask an owner or admin?

Your role on the Vamo account cannot connect AI tools. Owners, admins and users can. A read-only member cannot. An owner or admin of the account can change your role. Then start the connection again from your AI tool.
