What is code mode in Vamo?

Code mode is how an AI tool works with Vamo: it reads Vamo's guide, writes one small program that can only talk to Vamo, and runs it.

Article summary

  • In code mode, an assistant reads Vamo's guide once, then writes one small program and runs it.
  • A code mode program runs in a closed space that can do one thing: call Vamo's published search operations.
  • One code mode program can do a whole search job, so the answer comes back as people.
  • Large Vamo results come in pages, and the assistant asks for the next page when it needs more.
  • The Vamo MCP server cannot read account, usage or billing information.

Code mode is how an AI tool works with the Vamo MCP server. The assistant reads Vamo's guide once, then writes one small program that can only talk to Vamo, and runs it. You ask in plain language and get people back.

What it is

Vamo gives an assistant three things: a guide to read, a place to run a program, and a way to fetch more of a long result.

The guide lists what Vamo can do and shows an example for each kind of request. The assistant reads it once, before its first search. After that it knows how to ask Vamo for what you want.

You never write the program. You never need to read it either.

When you are using it

You are using code mode whenever your AI tool is connected to the Vamo MCP server. That covers browser sign-in, an API key, and a setup code.

Skills and the direct API work differently. MCP, skills and the API explains each one.

There is nothing to switch on. If you have not connected a tool yet, start at Set up > Get started.

How it works

Say you ask for the strongest engineers at <company> who work in a certain language.

The assistant writes a short program for that request. The program searches, narrows the results, and keeps the details that matter. Then Vamo runs it.

The program runs in a closed space. That space can do one thing: call Vamo's published search operations. It cannot open other websites. It cannot read your files. It cannot read your account, usage or billing information.

Only what the program hands back reaches the assistant. The assistant then writes your answer from that.

Why Vamo works this way

One program does a whole job. A request like yours can need several searches, a merge, and a trim. In code mode that is one step, so fewer things can go wrong along the way.

The answer comes back as people. The program does the sorting and trimming before anything reaches the assistant. Vamo also asks the assistant to answer with who each person is, what they built, and why they fit. It asks the assistant to leave out how the search went.

Large results come in pages

A long result is split into pages. Nothing is cut off.

The assistant asks Vamo for the next page when it needs more. You can also ask it to keep going.

Pages are kept for a short time. If an old page is gone, ask the assistant to run the search again.

What you see

The answer is a list of people: who they are, what they built, and why they fit.

Some AI tools show each step an assistant takes. In those tools you may see the program, or a line saying a Vamo tool ran. That is normal, and the answer follows it.

If the code is all you get, the assistant stopped a step early. Ask it for the people:

Answer with the people you found: who they are, what they built, and why they fit.

When your assistant shows code or a wall of text covers this in more detail.

FAQs

Do I need to know how to code to use Vamo code mode?

No. You ask your AI tool for people in plain language. The assistant writes and runs the program for you, and answers with the people it found.

Can a code mode program reach anything other than Vamo?

No. A code mode program runs in a closed space that can do one thing: call Vamo's published search operations.

Why does my AI tool show code when I ask Vamo for people?

Some AI tools show each step an assistant takes, including the small program it wrote for Vamo. The answer you asked for comes after that step.
