Set up your AI agent to use Vamo

Give Claude, Codex, ChatGPT or any other agent the Vamo skills and an API key, so you can ask for developers in plain language.

Article summary

  • An agent needs three things to work with Vamo: the Vamo skills, an API key, and permission to reach the Vamo API over the network.
  • Vamo skills are public, plain markdown files that work in any agent that can read a file.
  • A Vamo API key is created at Set up > API keys and is shown once.
  • A lost Vamo API key cannot be shown again: create a new one and revoke the old one.
  • On a team or enterprise workspace, only an owner can allow an agent to reach the Vamo API host.

What you are setting up

An agent needs three things to work with Vamo: the skills that teach it how to search, an API key so it can act on your account, and permission to reach the Vamo API over the network.

The skills are public, plain markdown files. You can browse them in the skills catalog. They work in any agent that can read a file.

Install the skills

How you install a skill depends on where your agent runs, and the steps change as each tool changes. The skills install page has the current steps for each tool.

Create an API key

Open Set up > API keys and choose Create key. Name it for the person or agent that will use it. Setting Search to Read is enough to search, enrich, find similar developers and get email addresses.

The key is shown once. If you lose it, create a new one and revoke the old one.

Keep the key somewhere your agent can find it

If your agent asks for the key at the start of every conversation, it has nowhere to keep it. The API access skill walks through the fix for your setup: a private file on your own computer, or a private skill or project in a chat app.

Keep the key out of chat messages, shared documents and screen shares. If a key has been seen by someone else, revoke it and create another.

If your agent says the network is blocked

Some workspaces only let an agent reach package registries. Vamo needs one address allowed: api.vamotalent.ai.

On a personal plan you can add it yourself in the settings for code execution. On a team or enterprise workspace only an owner can. Send them this: "Please add api.vamotalent.ai to the allowed domains for code execution."

If something is not working

Hand this to your agent
Paste this line into your assistant. It reads Vamo's troubleshooting guide, runs the checks, and tells you what it found.
Read https://vamotalent.ai/skills/vamo-troubleshooting.md and check your connection to Vamo. Tell me in plain words what is wrong and what I should do.
