What it tells you about a developer
Someone who gives crisp standup-style updates communicates status without being asked, which is the exact behavior remote and distributed teams hire for. Candidates from async or open source backgrounds may never have attended a literal standup and still have the habit in written form.
Standups exist to surface blockers early, so a stuck developer loses hours instead of days. They typically run 15 minutes and go peer to peer. Async teams often replace the meeting with a posted written update, which does the same job.
