Claude names both the models Anthropic trains and the chat assistant most people meet them through. Developers build on Claude through Anthropic’s paid API, sending prompts and reading back answers, the same shape as building on GPT. Claude Code is a separate product: a coding agent that uses the Claude models to write code in a developer’s project.
