A shared GitHub account owned by a company or a project team, holding the group's repositories and its members.
What it tells you about a developer
Membership and commit activity in a respected organization means that team chose to trust the developer with their code. Organization activity and commit email domains are also a reasonable clue to where a developer actually works, especially when other sources are thin or stale.
Organizations own repositories the way individuals do, and they invite developers in as members. Membership in a public organization, and commits into its repositories, show up on a developer's activity. Because the team grants that access, organization membership is itself a form of vetting.
